SCHROEDER, Lee (Leander), age 90, a longtime resident of Kettering, Ohio, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his children; daughter, Cathy (Don) Obringer (Fairborn, OH); son, Ron (Ruth) Schroeder (Fairborn, OH) and Karen Beach (Osprey, FL). Lee was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Helen (Rieger) Schroeder; son-in-law, Timothy Beach and by his son, Rob Schroeder. He is also survived by Rob's wife, Barb Everette. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Clara; siblings, Martha Schroeder, Jerome Schroeder, Romilda Braun, Luella Ruschau and Delores Walterbusch; he is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Madonna (Donnie) and Ray Mangen. He loved his grandchildren Adam (Andrea) Schroeder, Andy (Amanda) Obringer, Lauren (Dustin) Lee, Julie Obringer, Christa (Scott) Lowery, Ashley (Paul) Garcher, Stephen (Traci) Beach, Lindsey (Brad) Unger, Rob Schroeder (Maddelyne Hill), and Renee (Ryan) Sample. He adored his great-grandkids, Kiara, Kellen, Nolan, Lucas, Maddy, Alexa, Hudson, Calder, Braxton, and Stella. Lee was born in Yorkshire, Ohio, April 23, 1926. He graduated from Versailles High School. He moved to Dayton from the family farm in Darke County at age 18. He worked two jobs, while going to school and graduated with an accounting degree from Miami Jacobs. Lee was a great story teller and over the years shared many humorous stories, which included funny tales about chauffeuring his prominent employer around town, while also working in a warehouse at a termite and pest control company. Lee went on to become President of Extermital Chemicals. He met his loving wife, Helen at a CYC dance (Catholic Youth Club). He told his best friend, Bob Gast that night, "I'm going to marry that girl in the red sweater!" Lee and Helen continued to "jitterbug" their way through life together just over 50 years. They loved to dance and socialize with many long-time cherished friends and family. Lee was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and favorite uncle and a good friend to many. He cared for and loved his children, their spouses, grand and great-grandchildren. He is now blessed to be reunited with Helen, Rob and Tim and all of his loved ones who have gone before him in heaven. Lee loved all sports, his favorites included fishing. He enjoyed his trips to Randall Lake in Michigan and getting up at the crack of dawn to bait a fishing line. He cherished the days of coaching his sons in EKRC baseball. He was a gigantic fan of the Cincinnati Reds. His bowling league on monday nights, with the K of C group, was a ritual and he continued to visit the alley to heckle and watch them, even as his health declined over the years. He took up golf later in life, sometimes accidentally leaving his pipe filled with Kentucky Club on the last hole, which was likely what led him to stop smoking! Lee was also a life member of the K of C Council 3730 and the East Dayton Optimist Club . The family would like to thank the staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living and Hospice of Dayton for the excellent care they gave to Lee for the past five years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 18 at 10:30 AM at Ascension Catholic Church, 2025 Woodman Drive, Kettering, OH 45420. Fr.Dave Brinkmoeller, celebrant. Interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, October 17, 2016 from 5 PM to7 PM at Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, OH 45432. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420 or the Alzheimer's Association, Dayton Chapter, 31 W. Whipp Road, Dayton, Ohio 45459, in Lee's memory. Condolences may be sent to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com
